Solar Eclipse (Surya Grahan) 20thApril 2023
In astrology, a solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the earth and the sun, casting a shadow on the earth and temporarily blocking out the sun’s light. Solar eclipses are seen as powerful astrological events and are often associated with major changes and transitions.
Solar eclipses are particularly significant when they occur close to a person’s birth chart placements or in key areas of their chart, such as the ascendant, midheaven, or personal planets. The specific astrological effects of a solar eclipse will depend on the zodiac sign and astrological house in which it occurs, as well as the other planets and aspects present in the chart at the time of the eclipse.
Generally speaking, solar eclipses are seen as a time of new beginnings and fresh starts, as they symbolize a powerful shift in energy and an opportunity to break free from old patterns and limitations. However, solar eclipses can also be a time of uncertainty and upheaval, as the changes they bring can be disruptive and unexpected. As with all astrological events, the specific effects of a solar eclipse will vary depending on the individual’s chart and life circumstances.
Will it be seen in India?
In 2023, the first solar eclipse will occur on April 20 from 7:04 am till 12:29 pm IST. This will be a Hybrid eclipse. A hybrid solar eclipse occurs when there is a combination of a total solar eclipse and an annular eclipse. It is a rare type of eclipse. Some parts of the Earth’s eclipse path fall within the Umbra – the darkest part of the Moon’s shadow, causing total solar eclipses. In a hybrid eclipse, the Sun forms a ring-like shape for a few seconds. The eclipse, however, will not be visible from India.
Do’s and Donts of Surya Grahan
Though the Grahan will not be visible in India, you can still take care of certain things during the Grahan.
In order to protect against the negative effects of the grahan, it is recommended to chant the mantra of Lord Shiva during it. This could be the perfect time for you to connect with yourself through meditation and chanting.
In most Indian households, taking a bath after grahan is an age-old ritual.
To avoid exposure to sunlight, pregnant women should stay indoors.
The tradition of cleaning the house after suryagrahan and sprinkling Gangajal dates back thousands of years. It is believed to bring positivity into the environment and protect it from the negative effects of the grahan.
You can also put holy basil leaves in water containers & cooked food to avoid any ill effect.
